Terrapin Creek

Terrapin Creek is a clear, spring-fed creek that flows from Talladega National Forest past Piedmont before entering Cherokee County and eventually Weiss Lake. The lower stretches near Piedmont are known for easy floats, fishing, and family-friendly kayak trips.

What to expect on the water

Most popular trips are half-day and full-day floats on gentle moving water, with gravel bars for swimming and picnic stops along the way. The creek is wide enough for comfortable passing and shallow in many places, making it a good choice for new paddlers when flows are normal. You’ll share the water with fish, turtles, and plenty of bird life.
